‘Education'

My days run in blur,
Each minute infected with slur,
Do lectures last for an hour or year?
It’s promising welcome but a deceitful leer.

All I hear are marks, marks, marks!
Harping on like an unholy lark.
Words of ‘education’ but a white noise,
Since when was our interest ever a choice!

To peel a ground nut,
And eat the shell.
The seed of knowledge planted,
Only to be felled.

‘Happy'

Against the wild winds, a harness, My armament against the darkness;
Logic was a friend of close,
Now, but a source of woes.

He guided me to build pillars & beams,
A bean stalk to my goals & dreams;
A promise of winning faraway,
“That’s where happiness lies” I hear him say.

My arms grow heavy, weak & tired:
I lean against him, my spirit retired.
My eyes strain down & far below,
A seed of doubt planted, ever so mellow.

In a question of ‘why?’,
I let my mind marinate.
“What are we doing here?”,
To logic, I interrogate.

No clear explanation, in a first;
That’s how my friend of 20 years burst.
So my bean stalk dried & crumbled,
Its strength in a second, humbled.

Falling back into the embrace of ignorance,
A dimness I long deemed a hinderance;
Familiar whispers cause my spine to chill,
They murmur at me “Stay still! Stay still!”.

“How can I? I have dreams” I scream,
Staying stationary, an idea extreme.
A voice replies, out of the blue;
My view of the world of the world, turning brand new.

“Goals are of the future,
An event inevitable.
Stay happy in the present,
Make yourself eligible.”

My topsy turvy world,
Turned around once more.
Was success only a by-product,
A happy journey at its core.

Armed with such an illogical logic,
I start my hunt again;
This time only inwards,
Chasing a fleeting feeling to keep me sane.

‘Amma'

Gazing out on a starry night, Lamenting your years of spring gone by;
I hope these verses are a happy dye,
Colouring you with joy and spry.

How can the stars you sight,
Compare to your nebulous eyes?
Warm and true in this world of lies,
A jewel of power; Don’t cloud it with sighs.

Those fierce streaks of white,
An emblem of the strong and bold.
For failure is only but a teacher,
To those who do not fold.

Your dimples a sign of smile,
A promise of a future bright;
The chalice of victory within sight,
So blaze along with your gentle light.

‘Me (part 1)'

I raise my hands to my face, Knuckles clenched into a mace,
Searching for enemies, my breath ragged;
Was the path to my goal always so jagged.

Sweat beats my brows,
Pouring into my eyes;
Without the facilities of vision,
How do I discern their lies.

Lids weighed with frustration,
So they shut close;
Entering a world of black, Thus the story goes.

Maybe this was my reprieve?
Though not of choice;
Such thoughts soon cleared,
Disturbed by a mental noise.

Alerted to the source,
I turned around in shock;
For there was another in company,
Even with no door to knock.

My inner demons I jest,
But I could not be farther.
He was but me,
Not a single difference I could gather.

He raised his hands to his face,
Knuckles clenched into a mace.
Searching for enemies, his breathing ragged;
As if the path he walked was so jagged
